Herno

Giuseppe Marenzi and Alessandra Diana founded Herno in 1948 in Lesa, on Lake Maggiore, and named it for the Erno river that runs under the factory. It is great at Italian technical outerwear that still looks like a coat, not kit. The first piece was a raincoat cut from cotton proofed with castor oil salvaged from abandoned wartime planes. Mid-century cashmere double-face coats and later down and Laminar rain shells built the modern house. Fun fact: before son Claudio Marenzi put the name back on the door in the 2000s, Herno spent years making outerwear for other luxury houses—so a lot of expensive coats were already Herno in secret.
