Mario Prada opened a Milan leather goods shop in 1913; Miuccia Prada took over in 1978 and made ugly-smart luxury the house language. It is great at nylon, bad taste done expensively, and treating a backpack like a revolution. The black nylon backpack and the bad-taste prints rewrote what a luxury object could look like. Fun fact: expensive nylon started as a joke about preciousness and then printed money.
