Hamilton Carhartt founded the company in 1889 to make tough railroad and work clothes. It is great at duck canvas that survives a job. The Detroit jacket and double-knee pant are the icons. Fun fact: Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) is the European fashion interpretation; the original Detroit jacket was never meant to be styled, only worn out.
