ASICS was founded in Kobe, Japan, in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka as Onitsuka Tiger; the ASICS name (Anima Sana In Corpore Sano) arrived in 1977. The brand is great at stability running shoes. The Gel-Kayano and Gel-Nimbus built the modern franchise; the Mexico 66 remains the lifestyle icon. Fun fact: Onitsuka Tiger shoes appeared in Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury and helped introduce Japanese running tech to the West.
