Comme des Garçons

Rei Kawakubo founded Comme des Garçons in Tokyo in 1969 and shocked Paris in 1981 with black, holes and anti-fit. It is great at questioning what a garment even is. The Play heart (by Filip Pagowski) became the accessible doorway; the runway remains radical. Fun fact: “Comme des Garçons” means “like boys,” a name Kawakubo chose before the world knew her.
