Salvatore Ferragamo built his name in Hollywood in the 1920s making shoes for stars, then returned to Florence. It is great at the wedge (which he helped popularize) and the Gancini bit. Fun fact: he once made a pair of 18-karat gold sandals for a film star and treated the last like anatomy class.
